Why I Became a doula
Hello, I’m Adam Daviau, and I am your End-of-Life Doula.
My path to this work was forged through real-world experience. I grew up in a household where my parents, Roger and Flo Daviau, set a strong example of what it means to look out for others and face life’s toughest moments head-on, without hiding from the reality of them.
That foundation was put to the test in December 2007 when my father was diagnosed with cancer. At just 26 years old, he handed me a massive responsibility: he asked me to step up as his executor and primary medical decision-maker.
I was thrown into the deep end with no playbook. Together, my dad and I had to navigate the banks, coordinate medical treatments, manage family dynamics, and map out his exact directives for his celebration of life and final disposition.
Going through that gridlock, I quickly realized how incredibly difficult it is to protect a loved one’s dignity and handle the logistics without reliable, professional backup. My father faced unnecessary setbacks and negative experiences that could have been completely avoided—or at least heavily minimized—if we had an End-of-Life Doula in our corner.
That trial by fire is exactly why I do this work today. I became the asset I wish I had back then, and I’m here to make sure you have the strategy, the intelligence, and the frontline support to lead your family through this chapter smoothly.
After my father passed in March 2008, I made a commitment to ensure other families wouldn’t have to fight the same avoidable battles we did. I knew the system was broken, and I knew I had to do something about it.
The turning point came in 2018. While driving in London, Ontario, I heard a broadcast about End-of-Life Doulas. Everything clicked. I immediately called my wife and told her I had found the mission. From that moment on, while running businesses and working demanding blue-collar jobs, I spent my off-hours rigorously researching the field and analyzing what it takes to provide top-tier support.
I don’t believe in cutting corners. In 2024, I sought out the most comprehensive, high-standard training program in the country: Rhodes Wellness College. After graduating from their advanced End-of-Life Doula program, my work was recognized to the point where I was brought on as a Professional Teacher’s Assistant for the college. To further sharpen my capabilities, I am currently expanding my specialization into dedicated End-of-Life Support for Veterans.

No, every person’s situation is different and every plan is made to each individual’s needs and wants.
I do not provide medical care of any kind nor administer medications. I also do not provide legal advice. For client needs outside of the Doula scope of practice, I will make referrals to appropriate professionals and community resources. numquam, error, est. Ea, consequatur.
